Does my company need to join a pension fund?
Owners of public limited companies and limited liability companies need to join a pension fund if their salaries exceed CHF 22,680.
For partnerships and sole proprietorships, however, taking out personal insurance is voluntary. Business owners must decide for themselves whether they want to save for retirement with or without a pension fund. However, depending on the industry, not everyone is eligible to join a pension fund.
The higher the salary, the more attractive it is from a tax perspective to save for retirement with a pension fund. Besides savings contributions, voluntary buy-ins can also be deducted from taxable income. Self-employed people who take out insurance with a pension fund pay lower premiums for disability and death cover than they would with private life insurance.
