Description

(AWP Alliance News) - Toyota Motor Corp on Monday announced a USD3.6 billion investment to expand production capacity at the San Antonio plant in Texas.

The Aichi, Japan-based automotive manufacturer is planning to add a second vehicle assembly line at the facility, with the aim of "enhancing Toyota's locally rooted and competitive production system".

The new line is scheduled to commence operations in 2030, increasing annual production capacity by approximately 150,000 units.

Toyota also expects to create 2,000 new jobs.

Additionally, the company said it will transfer production of the Tacoma mid-size pickup from the Baja California plant Mexico to the San Antonio facility over a period of approximately four years.

In November, Toyota said it will invest a total of USD10 billion in the US over five years, and this latest investment follows an announcement in March that the company will invest USD1 billion in its US plants in Kentucky and Indiana.

Toyota shares closed up 3.4% at JPY2,923.00 each in Tokyo on Monday.
