IN BRIEF: AbbVie's Skyrizi approved for pediatric psoriatic disease

(AWP Alliance News) - AbbVie Inc - Chicago-based biopharmaceutical company - Skyrizi approved by the US Food & Drug Administration for pediatric use in psoriatic disease. The approval covers pediatric patients six years of age and older weighing less than 40 kilograms with plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. Company says the approval "supports improved disease management and extends established standards of care to younger patients." The approval is based on the phase 3 OptIMMize psoriasis trial programme, which demonstrates "clinically meaningful improvements in sPGA and PASI responses, with responses maintained long-term with continued treatment," according to study investigator Amy Paller. "These clinical responses, combined with weight-based dosing for younger patients, may help physicians better support a broad range of children living with plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis," adds Paller. Skyrizi is already approved by the FDA and the European Medicines Agency for the treatment of plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
