Tower Semi, OpenLight expand PH18DA photonics platform with Cadence-ready design kit

(AWP Alliance News) - Tower Semiconductor teamed with OpenLight to expand the PH18DA indium phosphide-on-silicon photonics ecosystem, rolling out OpenLight's photonics process design kit for use in Cadence EDA tools. The move is designed to speed photonic IC development by letting customers design PICs in mainstream IC design software, then fabricate them on Tower's PH18DA platform.

The platform targets laser-integrated photonic chips for high-speed optical systems used in optical interconnects, AI infrastructure, and sensing. Tower said the collaboration supports development of 400G and 1.6T designs, with co-optimized photonic and electronic ICs aimed at near- and co-packaged optics.
