TELUS partners with AST SpaceMobile on direct-to-smartphone satellite connectivity in Canada

(AWP Alliance News) - TELUS entered a collaboration with AST SpaceMobile to integrate its mobile network with AST's low-Earth-orbit satellite network to support direct-to-smartphone calling and text messaging in areas without traditional cellular coverage. The companies completed their first successful network integration test, marking a step toward broadband satellite-to-phone service in remote parts of Canada.

TELUS expects to offer the service to customers over the next year. The initiative targets expanded coverage and improved access to emergency services, including 911.
