(AWP Alliance News) - Swiss Re AG on Thursday reported improved performance in the first half of 2026 as it unveiled new partnerships in India and Mexico.
The Zurich-based insurer said net income rose 8.8% to USD2.83 billion in the six months to June 30 from USD2.61 billion in the first half of 2025.
Earnings per share increased 9.9% to USD9.57 from USD8.71.
Insurance revenue fell 3.3% to USD20.26 billion from USD20.95 billion.
Insurance service result increased to USD3.46 billion from USD3.00 billion while investment result declined to USD2.28 billion from USD2.43 billion.
Swiss Re's Property and Casualty Reinsurance business generated a net income of USD1.45 billion, Corporate Solutions had USD490 million, and Life and Health Reinsurance contributed USD1.05 billion.
As at June 30, shareholders' equity stood at USD24.46 billion compared to USD25.11 billion at December 31.
Swiss Re reported a 22.7% annualised return on equity and 4.0% return on investments.
The company said in a letter to shareholders: "We remain vigilant as we approach the peak of the hurricane season amid a volatile geopolitical and economic environment. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to strain global supply chains, while the increasingly fragmented global economy is more prone to shocks and re/insurance markets remain challenging.
"Looking beyond the current year, we see demand for re/insurance and risk expertise continuing to grow in a rapidly changing world. By investing in data, technology and artificial intelligence, we are building the capabilities that will enable us to better capture this growing demand, help our clients navigate an increasingly complex risk landscape and create long-term value for our shareholders."
Meanwhile, the company's commercial insurance arm, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, announced it has formed exclusive partnerships with Bajaj General Insurance in India, a joint venture between Bajaj Finserv Ltd and Allianz SE, and GNP Seguros SA in Mexico.
The company said the deals aim to provide insurance solutions for large domestic firms expanding overseas and to support global clients operating in both markets.
"By working with local insurers, we can build on our underwriting expertise, capital strength and global reach to better support our corporate clients while creating a scalable platform for long-term growth," said Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Chief Executive Officer Ivan Gonzalez.
