(AWP Alliance News) - Siemens Energy AG on Tuesday said it has begun preparations to spin-off its Transformation of Industry business.
The Munich, Germany-based energy technology firm said the spin-off will create a new independent industrial energy solutions company with "greater entrepreneurial flexibility and additional options for further growth".
Siemens Energy said growth options will include external investment and the potential for a capital markets transaction. It said ToI currently competes with businesses that are growing more quickly.
Siemens Energy will maintain a minority stake in the new business. The company will focus on power generation and power transmission, it said.
The Transformation of Industry unit produces industrial equipment such as compressors and steam turbines. It accounts for EUR5.7 billion of Siemens Energy's revenue, and employs 17,000 people.
Christian Bruch, president and chief executive officer of Siemens Energy, said: "Transformation of Industry has developed successfully over the past several years and is now a profitable, high-growth business.
"We see the potential for further profitable growth if we can accelerate the business's continued development."
Burch added: "If we don't change our structure, we limit what Transformation of Industry can achieve. Our current investment focus is on power generation and power transmission, with higher immediate payback."
The new business will initially operate under Siemens Energy's future brand, Omterra.
Omterra is set to replace the time-licensed use of the Siemens name.
Shares in Siemens Energy shares closed up 2.7% at EUR152.76 per share on Tuesday in Frankfurt.
