(AWP Alliance News) - Siemens AG on Thursday announced a collaboration with Galp Energia SGPS SA to digitalise the GalpH2Park hydrogen project in Sines, Portugal.
The Munich, Germany-based technology and engineering firm said the plant "will be one of Europe's largest renewable hydrogen plants once it starts operating at year-end," with the 100 megawatt facility expected to produce up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year.
Lisbon-headquartered Galp Energia will incorporate Siemens' Hydrogen Performance, "an advanced digital cockpit designed to continuously enhance renewable hydrogen plant operations," according to Siemens.
"GalpH2Park is a lighthouse for Europe's energy transition," said Axel Lorenz, executive vice president of Automation Process Industries at Siemens.
"We are convinced that digital innovation is the key to making renewable hydrogen economically viable and accelerating the decarbonisation of industry," added Lorenz.
Siemens adds that the facility is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 110,000 tonnes of per year through its renewable hydrogen production.
Siemens shares closed down 2.6% at EUR264.25 each in Frankfurt on Thursday.
