(AWP Alliance News) - Salesforce Inc on Tuesday unveiled plans to spend USD1 billion ramping up its artificial intelligence capabilities in Switzerland over the next five years.
The San Francisco, California-based provider of customer relationship management software last month disclosed a similar spending plan in Italy, where it will open a new office, also setting aside USD1 billion over five years.
Salesforce Chief Executive Marc Benioff, who is a member of the World Economic Forum, announced the Swiss spending plan ahead of an AI summit in Geneva.
"Switzerland is where the world comes together to solve its greatest challenges - home to global institutions, pioneering companies, and a deep tradition of innovation and trust. We are proud to expand our presence here with this major investment, partnering with Swiss organizations to become agentic enterprises that unlock new levels of productivity, growth, and customer value," Benioff said.
Salesforce sees this investment expanding the company's "longstanding commitment to Switzerland... by supporting its local workforce, its growing base of customers and partners, and Switzerland's workplace and AI skills development."
The US firm opened its first Swiss office in 2004.
Salesforce shares rose 0.7% to USD166.80 during after-hours trading on Tuesday in New York, having slipped 39% over the past year.
