Roche's Chugai reports revenue and profit climb amid Japan growth

Description

(AWP Alliance News) - Chugai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd reported higher revenue and profits for the first nine months of 2026.

The Tokyo-based pharmaceutical company said net income attributable to shareholders in the nine months to September 30 increased 23% on-year to JPY375.30 billion, around USD2.38 billion, from JPY305.60 billion.

Revenue rose 17% to JPY1.068 trillion from JPY911.64 billion a year prior.

Sales in Japan increased 18% year-on-year, driven by higher sales of core products Polivy, Hemlibra and Vabysmo, as well as newer products Lunsumio and Elevidys, despite the impact of drug price reductions imposed under the National Health Insurance system.

Overseas sales grew 11%, supported by increased exports of Alecensa to Roche Holding AG and Nemluvio to Galderma Group AG, which holds an out-licensing agreement for the drug.

Chugai forecast a total dividend of JPY132.00 per share for 2026, compared with JPY272.00 in 2025.

Separately on Tuesday, Roche Holding AG, Chugai's majority shareholder, announced that it had received the CE mark for its cobas smart e immunoanalyser, a compact platform designed to deliver reliable testing in spaces smaller than one square metre.

Roche Chief Executive Matt Sause said: "For smaller hospitals and laboratories, maintaining central-lab quality has traditionally meant outsourcing tests. The cobas smart e immunoanalyser fits on a benchtop, bringing Roche's immunoassay standards directly into these care settings."

Chugai shares closed 3.0% lower at JPY6,688 in Tokyo, while Roche shares were down marginally at CHF396.40 in Zurich.
