(AWP Alliance News) - Novartis AG on Tuesday reported its remibrutinib drug "significantly reduces relapse rates" in sufferers of relapsing multiple sclerosis, meeting its primary endpoint.
In addition, trials showed "superiority of remibrutinib versus teriflunomide on all key secondary endpoints". Teriflunomide is developed by Sanofi SA and sold under the Aubagio brand name.
"Remibrutinib demonstrated clinically meaningful reductions versus teriflunomide in key secondary endpoints related to disability progression, with a positive trend in 3-month confirmed disability progression and nominal significance in 6-month confirmed disability progression," Basel, Switzerland-based Novartis added.
Remibrutinib is an oral treatment for autoimmune disease MS, which affects nearly 3 million people worldwide.
Novartis shares rose 4.4% to CHF128.66 each in Zurich on Tuesday afternoon.
