Microsoft launches new India data center region in Hyderabad

(AWP Alliance News) - Microsoft Corp on Friday said it had launched its newest data center region in India, the South Central cloud region.

The Redwood, Washington-based software and cloud computing company said the South Central cloud region in Hyderabad complements its Central India region in Pune, South India region in Chennai and West India region in Mumbai.

The build-out enables Microsoft customers the ability to use eligible Microsoft Cloud services and service workloads from Hyderabad "with the security, reliability and support of a fully operational Microsoft region," noted the company.

Microsoft noted that its cloud infrastructure investments give it the largest hyperscale cloud presence in India.

"The Microsoft India South Central data center region is a critical part of that foundation, backed by Microsoft's USD20.5 billion investment commitment to India's cloud and AI future," said Puneet Chandok, president of Microsoft's India and South Asia segments.

"Making India AI-first is about bringing together the scale to support growth, the skills to unlock value, the sovereignty organizations expect and the security they depend on," Chandok added.

Microsoft shares closed flat at USD499.99 in New York on Friday.
