Description

(AWP Alliance News) - Marvell Technology Inc, Microsoft Corp and Oracle Corp on Tuesday said they would work together to standardise cybersecurity specifications for data centre infrastructures.

The companies said they aim to define the parameters for a hardware security module that stores and manages keys, which are used by computers to encrypt and decrypt data, directly at the server level.

"This approach will reduce latency, improve scalability and strengthen the security posture of cloud compute workloads," the companies said.

Cary Ussery, senior vice president and general manager of the multimarket business group at Marvell, said: "By defining this as an open specification, we'll make that capability available to the entire industry."

The aim is to limit exposure of sensitive keys to potential security attacks by ensuring encryption and decryption operations run where the data is processed.

"As artificial intelligence transforms cybersecurity and quantum technology reshapes cryptography, protecting the keys and credentials at the heart of our digital infrastructure has never been more important," said Mark Russinovich, chief technology officer, deputy chief information security officer and technical fellow at Microsoft Azure.

Shares in the technology companies were mixed in after-hours trading in New York on Tuesday. Marvell edged up 0.5% to USD270.00, while Microsoft fell 0.4% to USD541.15 and Oracle was down 0.1% to USD143.11.
