Logitech starts the year strong as profit climbs 61% in first quarter

(AWP Alliance News) - Logitech International SA on Tuesday delivered a strong start to its financial year with quarterly profit rising sharply.

The Lausanne, Switzerland-based computer peripherals and software manufacturer said net income in the first quarter ended June 30 jumped 61% to USD245.7 million from USD146.0 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Basic earnings per share climbed 66% to USD1.64 from USD0.99 and diluted EPS rose to USD1.63 from USD0.98.

Net sales totalled USD1.23 billion, up 6.9% from USD1.15 billion.

Cost of goods sold amounted to USD618.6 million while amortisation of intangible assets reached USD695 million.

Total operating expenses increased 10% to USD349.4 million from USD316.9 million.

Chief Executive Officer Hanneke Faber said: "We delivered a strong first quarter against a dynamic backdrop. Superior innovation and stronger brand marketing drove strong growth across core categories, including double-digit growth in Pointing Devices."

For the second quarter, Logitech expects sales between USD1.19 billion and USD1.22 billion, and sales growth of 0% to 3% in US dollars and constant currency.

Logitech did not issue a full-year outlook but said "demand momentum from Q1 is expected to carry into the remainder of the year".

However, it noted that the temporary closure of one of its semiconductor suppliers is "likely to impact" its ability to meet future demand but clarified that it is already working on mitigation plans.

Shares in Logitech ended 0.9% higher at CHF87.80 in Zurich on Tuesday.
