(AWP Alliance News) - Daimler Truck Holding AG on Tuesday said its Daimler Buses segment had begun production of the Mercedes-Benz Conecto in Turkey.
The Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany-based commercial vehicle manufacturer began production with Turkish vehicle-maker Otokar Otomotiv ve Savunma Sanayi AS at the latter's production plant in Sakarya, Turkey.
Daimler and Otokar in turn partnered with Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz Group AG's Turkish subsidiary, Mercedes-Benz Turk.
"The additional production capacity will support Daimler Buses and Mercedes-Benz Turk in meeting continued customer demand in Europe," said Daimler.
The Conecto, a 12-metre solo bus, has been in service in Europe for many years, according to Daimler.
"The start of production marks an important milestone in our cooperation with Otokar. Demand for our buses in Europe remains strong, and the Mercedes-Benz Conecto continues to play an important role in many European markets," said Till Oberworder, chief executive of Daimler Buses.
"By expanding production capacity, we are strengthening our ability to serve customers reliably while further supporting the profitable growth of our business," added Oberworder.
Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
Shares in Daimler closed flat at EUR43.20 each in Frankfurt on Tuesday, while Mercedes-Benz shares closed down 0.5% at EUR43.47 in Frankfurt
