IN BRIEF: ABB secures heavy transport vessel propulsion contract

(AWP Alliance News) - ABB Ltd - Zurich, Switzerland-based automation technologies company - Secures contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International to supply a power and propulsion package to semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Grand Tour. Company will supply four nozzled Azipod units to the vessel to provide propulsion. Company notes that the Azipod units "reduce mechanical losses and fuel consumption - thereby helping to reduce emissions - as well as noise and vibration compared to conventional mechanical thrusters." Guangzhou Shipyard International, the Guangzhou-based shipbuilder, is expected to deliver the Grand Tour in 2028.
