(AWP Alliance News) - Alcon AG on Friday announced clinical data demonstrating that its Systane Pro dry eye relief treatment provided comparable dry eye symptom relief to an alternative treatment option.
The Geneva, Switzerland-based eye-care products company said the data demonstrated Systane Pro's non-inferiority to Miebo, or perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution, at both two weeks and one month in a head-to-head study of both treatments.
The study evaluated 256 dry eye patients with moderate-to-severe symptoms, according to Alcon. Patients were randomised and treated with either treatment type four times daily.
"These findings underscore the strength of Systane Pro PF, backed by a rigorous, independently conducted randomised clinical study," said Sarika Sood, vice president of Global Medical Affairs and Health Economics and Outcomes Research at Alcon.
"The results add to the growing body of evidence...and reinforce the strength of Alcon's comprehensive dry eye portfolio," added Sood.
Shares in Alcon closed down 0.4% at USD63.69 each in New York on Friday, after closing flat at CHF52.84 each in Zurich.
