(AWP Alliance News) - Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc on Tuesday said it will invest USD1 billion in Facebook owner Meta Platforms Inc's equity offering.
Meta on Monday announced plans to raise approximately USD35 billion through concurrent share offerings, alongside a potential USD60 billion future stock sale programme, as it seeks to fund its expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure investments.
The hyperscaler is launching a USD22.5 billion offering of Class A common stock and about USD12.5 billion of depositary shares representing newly issued mandatory convertible preferred stock, worth GBP35.0 billion in total.
The Monday announcement said Nvidia Corp, AMD and Broadcom Inc would act as cornerstone investors in the fundraising.
Meta said the financing would support continued investment in AI infrastructure and its ambitions to develop personal superintelligence.
The company expects capital expenditure of between USD135 billion and USD145 billion in 2026, as it expands computing capacity and builds large-scale data centres.
"As Meta grows its AI capabilities, the companies are working together across silicon, software and systems to address the demands of operating AI infrastructure for billions of people. The companies have aligned product roadmaps and engineering decisions around current and future Meta workloads, evolving years of collaboration into building and deploying integrated AI systems at gigawatt scale," AMD said in a statement.
Meta shares ended down 1.6% at USD620.19 each in New York on Tuesday. AMD ended up 5.5% at USD560.26
