How do I find the cheapest mortgage?

Many property owners are convinced that the best approach to getting a cheap mortgage is to compare as many offers as possible. But the smartest way to save money actually involves selecting the right mortgage model and term. Money market mortgages, which usually have extremely short terms of three or six months, are almost always cheaper than fixed-rate mortgages. In 2010, for example, anybody choosing a 10-year fixed-rate mortgage of CHF 500,000 would have paid a total of CHF 151,000 in interest. A money market mortgage for the same period would have cost more than CHF 100,000 less. And there is reason to believe that money market mortgages will continue to be a better choice than fixed-rate mortgages going forward too.
